I think i know why the stance is a lot more open, it's because of

    1. the dominent eye!!! o'sullivan is left eye dominent hence when he uses right hand, as he cues under his left eye, the cue is positioned closer to the opposite arm than when he cues left handed......

    2. back arm - back arm is not as straight as his right... it's more towards outside as he needs to cue under left eye.

    3. head position is different too - he tilt his head to the right so the left eye can sit above the cue.

    4. grip is not v grip anymore - the writ is sticking out a bit.

    these are only my observations.

To improve my currently woeful game, I have been starting to video myself and use kinovea (thanks terry) to slow it down.

I thought it would be interesting to do this with some of ronnie's videos (use youtube downloader to download the file and then open it on kinovea). You have to slow it down to 5-10% to see what is going on as ronnie is so quick.

Anyway what i noticed (sorry if this is obvious) is that from standing up behind the shot, the first thing that ronnie down is thrust out the bridge hand. It is straight out for most of the way down. It is connected with the cue for only a short time but the grip holds the cue very near the bridge hand on the way down. Its only after the bridge hand is thrust out that he does his 1-2 into the shot, where takes a small steps with right and then left and then bends his hips. He doesn't move his grip hand from his position at the side of his hip, he lets the upward hip movement move his grip hand upward which results in the elbow in the correct position.

Its similar to what nic barrow says, its your bridge hand that should move first and then guide the feet into the correct position.

Here is a nice one. On some shots you can see how low on the table he ends up with his grip hand.
