  • Blocking out distractions

Everyone misses shots and makes the occasional bad judgement due to distractions while playing snooker be it the crowd or the other player. I happen to get really affected by them but I'm getting better. My question to you is do you get distracted during a match and how do you deal with it?

ah, this is a tough one!!! distractions are very hard to get used too if it bothers you. but some have absolutely no problems with it.

I do have good and bad days. sometimes I don't bother at all, sometimes I am really distracted by a single pool player who strikes every ball with a hammer shot (I never really get this...) or some guy who's whistling to some music coming from the radio. kids distract me the most. when they're running around in the hall, screaming. that's really something I hate.

my nephew, with whom I play most of the times, he is distracted very easily. but he's young, just 18. he has to learn it. I have to learn... :snooker:

I find if im playing well table noise doesnt affect me but if im not happy in my game then it does. As for kids running around and music playing..AARRGGGHHHHHH! Are you serious?? I couldnt handle that if my club allowed that!!

As for trying to help you brettski all id suggest is concentrate even harder on the point of contact on the object ball as your down on the shot.

oh yes, I am. you know, it's not a club as you know it. it's a sports center with tennis, squash, work out and a billard hall...! and it's the only one with two (fairly good) snooker tables in my area. so not much of a choice. as for the kids: I don't let them do that, of course. but it's stupid, that there are parents who let them do anything. as I said... I really mind those all energy in every pot pool players much more.

to be fair though he had to play it pretty hard to get the cue ball down the other end of the table for position on the 9 ball, i think thats the only reason he hit it so hard.

I do know what you mean though, pool players where i live are notorious for smashing balls in when theres no need to.

Aye it gets pretty annoying when your playing a delicate snooker shot on the opposite table and all you can here are cries of 'AVE IT!!' from the other table lol. Played better last night though so somethings helping

The more you think about the distraction the more it is going to distract you. It is like a monster you create which grows every time you pay attention to it.

Dont expect everything to be perfect when you play. Dont pay too much attention to things that people should not have been doing, or things that should not be there, or the person who should not be making those noises and so on--you need to put all your focus on winning if you want to be good at this game. Focusing on the negative will not help you to win, it just wastes your energy and messes up your momentum.

If 'delicate' can be used in the context of me throttling the little blighters to death then yes
