  • the bridge

Hello, just got a few questions.

Generally how many inches should the bridge be from the cueball aand how does this change depending on the shot?

also what makes up the fundermentals of good feathering of the cue ball ?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey malachi. there really is no right or wrong answer here what is important is that it is comfortable to you. If you go to google video and type in nam v roy you will see a video of me playing nam1977 from this very site. My hand is pretty close to the object ball and closer still when screwing back as I find this gives me maximum control and a real feel for the shot. Take a look. Experiment on the practice table with differing lengths between your bridge arm and the cueball to see how much control you have and maybe note out of ten how many straight pots you pot with different lengths. Youll be amazed. As ever please keep me informed.

I was having this debat with nam1977 a few weeks ago. I prefer about 10-12 inches between bridge and cue ball, however nam believes it should be closer around 6-9 inches i believe he said. Ongoing debate lol

When is Nam getting his laptop up and running again Rob? 6-9 sounds perfect for me but like I said its a personal thing.

anyways on the subject. i think generally 6-9 inches is quite a good length of bridge. i use to have a real long bridge when using a 58 inche.

my bridge is around 6-9 now and im using a 54 inche at the moment till my new cue arrives.

shows how short i am doesnt it?

Yes you are very short Nicholas but a fantastic potter. Hope you are well.

6-9 inches in distance is plenty.

today I tried 6 inches away from the cueball and found that it felt really short but maybe I just got to get used to it. The reason I am changing it is because I used to have me bridge hand really far from the cueball so I think if I had it closer I would get more control but it just feels uncomfortable

I would advise you to play it how it feels comfortable, no point copying someone elses style if it doesn't work for you.
