  • playing with different cues...

I havent played snooker for a few month now, but have been playing a lot of UK 8ball pool... went to the snooker hall last night and played a load of rubbish with my snooker cue, but had a few hits with my pool cue (lighter, with an 8mm tip) and my potting was a lot better... I'm thinking its most likely because as thats my main cue now, I'm more comfortable with it, however i dont really want to play snooker with it for fear of damaging the cue.

so the question is, if i start playing snooker regularly as well as playing pool 3 times a weeks, are both my games going to suffer from using 2 completely different cues?

The answer is to find a cue with which you can play both, ie something with a 9-9.2mm tip probably, otherwise its quite likely that both games will suffer.

I had the same issue, as I play uk pool 5 nights a week, but also enjoy playing snooker socially. I ended up using my snooker cue (9.5mil tip) for both games. I actually believe this has improved my pool game too. I don't think I needed my 8mil tip, As long as you cue the ball well you can get all the necessary spin with a 9.5. I certainly found that switching between was very strange for me.

i've got a 10mm on my cue , i only play 8 ball pool now and find it a little hard to cue over the cushion . i was wondering if putting on a 8mm tip might help ? i was a little apprehensive coz there will be 2mm og ferrule extra . wud that affect playability? also I play with 10 mike woolridge supertips wont change it and they dont come under 10mm . so how do cut those those tips ??? i'm not sure that wen i cut it, it will be 8mm , or even if it will remain round lol

          have you watched this:

you cut any tip down to fit your ferrule this way.

you cant damage a pool cue by playing snooker....snooker is a lighter game and if a pool cue would be damaged it should become fire wood anyway....

you might damage a snooker cue playing pool though....

8 ball uses smaller balls and hence less stress is put on the cue I know a few people that play snooker with 8mm tips though

yes i think ball control etc would be better with the correct tips or weight of cue but i dont think you can damage a pool cue playing snooker....if you can play up to standard with it is up to you.

but thing is changing cues meen you cant get used to the cue and both games will suffer.....

best thing find 1 cue and play both games with it...
