  • How long do you spend practicing?

I just wondered what sort of time others put in on the practice table?
Also what do you hope to achieve in the time your putting in?

Obviously more modest goals require less practice time, where as the experienced guys who are great amatuer or semi-pro players may spend longer on the table.

Right now I have a minimum of 1 two hour practice session per week and 4 hours of matchplay.

I practice between 20-45 hours a week although being a coach and spending a lot of time in the club helps with this. I aim to become the tightest matchplayer in my area and hopefully travel around a bit locally and meet new faces and improve further.

20/45 thats quite a bit. going back a couple of years i used to practice 3 nights a week for about 4 hours a time and the odd sunday afternoon and it definitly helps with the game. when i was practicing regular i was getting 60/70 odd 80s quite often but over the last 18 months i have only been playing on a thursday / friday night still getting 30/40 breaks but i have lost my edge.

If i'm lucky it's anything between 3-5 hours a week. Since my old club closed earlier in the year my new club (charges more) so i've had to economise & therefore my form has suffered because of this.

I can only put in 6 hours a week in. And that is after a 15 year lay off. So I have low expectations. What I would like to do is find a practice partner, say 2 nights a week. I live in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, 20 miles north of London. All I know is that the pros practice at least 6 hours a day everyday. And it takes a minimum of 10 years doing that and coaching etc until you are good enough to play on telly, assuming you have enough ability. These guys have so much patience because within about 30 minutes at the table I feel like smashing my cue.
