  • Dont know when your beaten..

Tonight I was 44 behind (25-69) with 25 points remaining. I would normally concede but seeing as it was the final of one of our club monthly tournaments I decided to carry on. Sure enough I got 4 fantastic snookers including 2 high point fouls to force a re-spotted black! People who had left the area we were playing in when my opponent potted the yellow were crowding back just in time to see me pot the black..unfortunately I went in off hence losing the frame and getting my 3rd runner up medal in 3 weeks

But it got me thinking of times I had conceded when maybe 2/3 snookers were needed simply because I thought this was the "accepted practice"

Well its not. Dont worry what people think if you carry on for a bit. Get the snookers required like I did but hopefully go 1 better and dont go in-off!!

Believe in your ability and win the frame.

    Roy.

Congrats on getting the 4 snookers...very tough to do.

It's hard to know how many is too many. In friendly matches, 4 is probably excessive but certainly not in competition.

      Thank you.

It is indeed hard to say when TOO many snookers are required but in a final of a competition 4 is definately fine to continue playing on in my opinion. It shows your opponent too that you are a grafter and this can always help in future battles.

Absolutely. And you were already in the colours so he only had to pot green and brown to put the frame beyond doubt.

nice job in a tough situation. everyone would go a bit further if its the deciding frame of a competition. takes a lot to do what u have done Roy.

Well if he had of potted green that would have been it. I got 1 snooker and there were murmurs but when I got 2 consecutive 6 point fouls to reduce the deficit from 44 to 28 people were getting excited! They honestly thought it was all over. I potted the brown and laid a perfect snooker behind the black and he missed the blue to leave me 18 behind. I then potted blue, pink and black as I felt the opportunity to snooker behind any ball was too great so I took the opportunity to force a respot. I thought I would have the upper hand and once Id potted the black I left the hall to go to the toilets to make him think about what Id just done!

Its very disappointing to struggle for snookers for 15 minutes or so, get them, then pot tournament ball only to see the white drop in but im more proud of myself for sticking it out as I would definately have conceded just a few months ago.

Some new found inspiration to take into the new season with me for sure.

Isn't that always the way though? Work hard to get back in the frame and then relax, play a poor safety or miss an overly ambitious pot.

It's good that you're focusing on the accomplishment.

                    Dont know when your beaten

HI About Twenty Years Ago i was playing a snooker Match for $1800.00 cdn and my oppenent had 28 points on the Blue Ball but i did not give up. I laid a snooker behind the Black Ball and he missed leaving 23 Points on the Blue Ball. I then saw that the Pink Ball was near the Black Ball and i decided to Pot the Blue Ball leaving 18 Points on Pink and Black thus giving me a chance to Lay a Snooker behind the Black Ball he then missed leaving only 12 Points on Pink and Black ball and then I could Win.

Now The Pink Ball was near the Brown Spot and the cue Ball was right on the cushion near the Black Ball. I said to my self if i try to play safe i could sell the Pink Ball so I decided to go for It. I potted the Pink Ball and wound up straight on the Black Ball and easy Pot to win the game. So I started to Chalk up and my oppenent was so mad to lose game that he threw his cue stick on the cue Ball and I won the Game without shooting the Black Ball.

Well, 4 snookers are acceptable but no more than that for me. Well done.

well done in getting the four snookers you needed and runner up spot again. Just goes to show it's always worth continuing, despite the fact if your in need of a few Snookers. John Spencer proved this once in a match where he needed (6 snookers) i think against Jimmy White & won the frame.

Leonard that is a sad story to hear. Well done. I f theres money on it I suppose its definately worth carrying on but to throw a cue across or onto the table is unacceptable.
