A lot of coaches have set opinions on the correct way to stand, and bridge your hand, but I really believe that so long as you are solid, then that is fine.

When it comes to sighting, I think it's gospel that you 1) find out which is your dominant eye and 2) experiment with placing your cue under that eye and see if it makes a difference to potting balls.

Just because you may have a dominant eye doesn't mean it's going to help by cueing under that eye. I'm just saying give it a go.

If I'm battering on then someone please stop me, I wouldn't want to bore anyone Semih.

There was a very good teaching video by Terry Griffiths about 5 yrs ago which had a good section on dominant eye.
Seems to have worked for Terry's pupils! (All puns intended!)

When I got glasses a decade or so ago, I found I couldn't play as well as I had previously, even just before the glasses.
Until I worked out that I had always naturally put the cue beneath my dominant left eye. But with the glasses making each eye as good as the other (or so I believed), I was placing the cue (quite unconciously) under the middle of my chin and aiming with both eyes and missing easy shots by miles.

When I reverted to letting my left eye take over the aiming process, and placing my cue beneath it, the problem largely went away.
(Still can't play for 5H1T, mind, but at least I understand why.)

This whole right/left eye dominance theory is bang on, but from my own previous experience is if your doing the business which ever eye your cue is under, stick with it.

When i was 17/18 and probably playing my best snooker (25 now!), i used to position the cue only slightly under my left eye, even though i later found out i was right eye dominant. A coach told me that my right eye is more dominant, and realy this is where the cue should be positioned, so i changed.....i found it hard to adjust and my game went a bit downhill, then i had got it in my head that its all becasue of this change, so i kept changing back and forth.

To this day i still change, its so annoying. As soon as i play bad, i think, maybe a change is what i need, when realy u shud just stick with what comes naturally.

If your potting the balls and your holding the cue upside down...stick with it...like someone said its all about potting the little balls, thats all that counts!!

I think that people in most cases automatically adjust their cue for the best sighting, without thinking about it. I put the cue right between my eyes, because that feels more comfortable and natural than anyting else. I don't believe in doing a special procedure to find out which eye is your "best" one - just stick with whatever feels good. And if you are uncertain - try different positions. It's really not that much to adjust. Basically, I think this idea of dominant eye is a bit oldfashioned in some ways and that you shouldn't be too concerned about it, just be natural and it will "solve itself".

Like I said, you not only have to place your dominant eye over the line of the cue, but also you have to let the dominant eye take over the aiming process.
One good exercise to help this to happen is, whilst feathering, to alternate focus between cueball and the aiming point on the object ball, and holding the focus there for the actual stroke.
Also remember nobody can hold focus for more than a couple of seconds at a time!

Its a bit like learning to wiggle your ears!
And even after you've learned, sometimes you can do it, and others, try as you might, you just can't seem to turn the right muscles on.

i actually realised about this quite some time ago and found that my left eye is the master eye compared to my right eye.so ive been placing my left eye on my cue.what i can say is it really improved my sighting even though it is hard to get used to it initially.trust me..find out which is your dominant eye and start with it .

next season i am going to produce eye patches for players with dominant eyes. ones which can be easily removed when not needed, and where judge of distance is required more than accuracy of angle.....

i wonder if the patch will be allowed an extra sponsor
