  • First positional practise routine...

    Hi Guys,

What is your first positional play practice routine you find useful except line-up as it is not for newbies like me?

I find useful to pot the pink, both cushionless, and using cushion... same as keep potting the black.

Any simple routine you can share?

    Best Regards
    Anthony

clearing the colors is a good one for positional practice, especially if your just starting out

I found that breaking down the clearing of the colours into shots was useful. I learned all of the different shots from yellow to green, then green to brown etc etc and put them all together a few weeks later. I still spend 20 mins doing yellow, green, brown, yellow, green, brown and also do blue, pink, black, blue, pink, black consecutively. Repetition of familiar shots makes them second nature and requires less thought and uncertainty when at the table. The most tricky to learn was brown to blue and blue to pink as they require more thought positionally.

A mini line up between the black and pink spots is far more useful than the full line up IMO.

I also like to put the black on its spot and an arc of reds above and try and judge canons onto particular reds. Helps to be more precise when in the balls.

Well that's really a tricky question but....

any positional shot from the black as this is the one you will use the most often so it would make a good starting point.

        e.g.

pot black and stun, screw for position

pot black and run through for position

You could also just use 2 balls and play each shot from where the previous shot finished and your goal on each shot is to get the 2 balls in the position you want them to finish in after each shot.

Obviosuly if you pot a ball then it comes back onto the table say onto the blue spot.

Just place 1 red above black and pot red then black. Then place 2 reds in a line above black and try to pot 2 reds and 2 blacks. Next try for 3 reds and 3 blacks. If you can do 3 reds and 3 blacks then try adding the other colours so that your aim eventually is to clear up for a 51 break. This helps you improve gradually bit by bit and gives you targets so that you are constantly trying to clear up.
