  • big thanks to youtube user kevy62 (if he is actually on this site)

i saw this link from this youtube user kevy62
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt8NZYtFuVg

this method helped me so much. in a couple of hours, i got used to this method for potting balls.

i started snooker seriously about less than 9months ago.
my highest break went from 27 to 35!!
my average breaks went from 19 to 29!!!

i personally found this very useful and high reccomend it, not just for potting. but also for people who always always always miss the black (like me, im fine with all the colors, just the black)

thanks to kevy62 (IF YOU ARE HERE!)

This is called 'ghost ball method' and is very commonly used. Most players have learned to pot using this, whether they know it or not.

As you get more experience you will find you don't think about the ghost ball anymore and just rely on your experience with that type of shot.

You aim your cue dead centre on the 'ghost ball' (or at least where it was when it made the dead-in plant and then took it away).

If you do decide on a lesson I will demonstrate

          Thanks Terry
I'm still thinking of taking a couple of lessons.
          It's 80% yes!
Need a couple weeks though to figure my financial situation.I'd also like to get a cue first (so I can practice after taking your classes).
Hope to see you soon =))))))))))))

            sneaky:

Remember, I do have a small collection of used cues here which I have checked out and refurbished and all of them play well.

The advantage is you can try them out first on my table before you consider buying one. Ordering a custom cue is sometimes a problem as you might pay decent money and then not like the cue and here in Canada there are not a lot of places where you can try out a cue before you buy it.

At the very least, you can try out some of my snooker cues and perhaps come up with the specs you would like to order from the UK or Thailand. You don't necessarily have to buy one of mine (although it would be nice to get rid of some of these cues I have hanging around).

                mick:

At 6ft 4in I think you likely do need a longer cue. It does really depend on the length of your arms and I would also bet Jimmy knows what he's talking about.

You should see if you can find and borrow some cues at 58.5, 59, 59.5 and 60inches and try then out and see which length feels better to you.

The other area you should look at is if you are dropping your elbow significantly when you pull the cue back to where your ferrule is at your bridge 'V'. With that long a backswing it's vital to drop the elbow in order to keep the cue as level as possible and this might stop your 'arc' or as I call it 'pump-handle' cue action

                    mick:

OK, the longer cue will likely help you out but if you're missing the easy ones and you're in the 100-break class then I think you may have something else wrong with your technique and it will likely be something very minor and hard to spot.

Without seeing you all I can do is give you the benefit of what I found out was wrong with me when I missed the easy ones (or at least missed shots I felt were 100%'ers)

I found for some unknown reason I had started breathing in or else moving slightly on the backswing which in turn was mirrored in my delivery. The very slight lifting caused the butt to come very slightly into my body (so tip slightly to the right) and then when I delivered I over-compensated and delivered the cue slightly to the left.

The other thing I found, especially on the easy shots is I was getting lazy and wasn't bothering to bring my grip hand into my chest on every shot. This was showing up especially on those 1/4-ball cuts along the top cushion where you attempt to stun/drag the white to stay on the black. I was missing a lot of those because I was 'clutching' the cue and not completing my delivery through to my chest.

Not sure if you're doing either of these but at least check it out to make sure as they can sure cost you a lot of breaks
