  • Gripping Question

Hi everyone, I have some gripping question to ask because I'm confusing a lot and it makes my snooker doesn't improve much. By the way I'm from Thailand sorry for my bad english.
The gripping technique when you're launching the cue to hit the cueball. The question is does you have to close the grip before the cue hits the cueball or you keep your grip lightly along when your cue hits the cueball and close it when your right hand hits the chest.

    Thank you in advance

The grip is a natural thing and I think THE hardest thing to change in a persons game.

I grip with my second finger (which is unusual I think as my first finger does not touch the cue) and relax my back fingers slightly on the back swing... after a slight pause I push thro and my grip slightly tightens as I accelerate through the cue ball and finishing when the shot is complete and my hand hits my chest.

Most people cue griping with first finger and thumb and relax other fingers on back swing.. Learning to grip and time this (and by grip I don't mean strangle the hell out of it I mean lightly grip) helps with both timing and also delivery and I think is THE most important aspect of anyone's technique.
It is also often what is flawed in most amateur technique...

Hope this helps and good luck:snooker:

getting the grip correct is one of the harder things to do and it comes down to natural timing. Gripping the cue too tight too early in the delivery will result in the cue decelerating before the moment of impact when it should be accelerating through the cueball. The answer is the grip should be tightened somewhere between after the cueball is hit and when the hand hits the chest, and it depends on the power used on the shot

I tried it today and it came out better, gripped lightly when accelerating the cue but it seems a bit strange for me so I will practice more and try to make it as natural as I can. Thanks for all reply

hold the cue with soft hands, nice and lazy, let the cue get through the cueball, and let the cue do the work dont grab it, and slow it down as this sends vibrations down the cue which when hit the cueball transfer to the object ball and can cause to throw the ball off line.
