We tend to split pack wide open on first two frames, to give each other a chance of getting your eye in before starting playing properly.

We used to hit the top cushion with side to break the pack when we broke off. It was very good practice and it is fairly easy to play safe from it, if you have any idea how. My mate used to make the odd century and I would make some 80'. How can you call it bad sportmanship. We also used to play some tactical snooker. But then we used to play and not talk about it! Lol.

Just get on with the game and try your best.

Sometimes when I play some players who would play safe on everyshot, push all the colours to the cushion whenever they have a chance to make a colour, with me giving them 30+ points to start, I would split the pack wide open as early as possible in the frame. I usually would break with check hitting the third ball, then if I have a long pot I will go for it and play for the blue or something, then break out the pack more from there.
The reason why I play it that way is because I know I can out pot my opponent and my break building ability can put some pressure on my opponent when there colours are still in the open; while if I play his game with lots of safties, very soon it would become very hard for me to score anything decent even when I have an open red. It will also easily get me off stroke if all he does is leaving me tight on the cushion after he makes a red. In other words, I would be using my weakness against his strongest asset, and I have lost frames doing that.
Snooker is a tactical game but it is also a game about potting and break building. There is nothing wrong with splitting the pack and make a 50+ break when you have a chance.

I once sort of did a similar thing in a league frame...
I was flying at the time and giving 42 start away ,after a few safety shots between myself and my opponent I thought to myself what the hell am I playing cagey snooker against a much weaker player and proceeded to bash into the pack with max pace and topspin.......
only to sit down in my chair whilst my much weaker opponent mopped up the easy balls for a forty something break leaving me 80 something behind and snookering me tight behind the yellow!!!
Needless to say I lost and have never done since!

I've tryed experimenting with the break off and you can break the balls open without smashing them like QH. I find that if you play the second red from the top of the pack in much the same way as the normal break off, the balls will open nicely and nine times out of ten the black stays clear and the pink pops out. You can get the white safe aswell. Mind you unless I new my opponents game was weak, I would not do this in a match. Try it in practise and see how you get on.:snooker:

I have tried to break with inside, hit the third ball. The cue ball will not go across the blue, but back the same side you break, hopefully hide behind a baulk color.
If the pack is loose to begin with, this break off sometimes will push more than one red to the pocket so it is rather dangerous. But if you end up snookering your opponent with a baulk color, reds will be everywhere and you will likely have a shot.

back in the day when I used to play Russian Pyramid (lots of safety there) my buddy used to do the same thing (on purpose) just to play on my nerves! He'd split the pack so the balls are all over the table! This way if I miss he'll just run the table....
In snooker some weaker players (no offence here,I don't know for sure, just from my experience) do that because it makes breakbuilding for the opponent very difficult.I hate it! =)

Well some player will spread the reds all over the table and we just need to deal with our emotion when we play with this type of opponent. But honestly I still hate this type of player though....

HI Snooker fans around the World. Quintan Han once spilt the pack or crashed the pack with Alain Robidoux and Alain cleared up with a run of 120 points.

This works only when a player cannot make a ball and you are not scared to split the pack hower if a player can make runs this is very risky. Leonard from Canada

Do most people break of like what you see on the tv?

Last red with side back up the table avoiding the blue?

I always tend to use this break-off.

Yea thats the one I use.

Going back to this thread though I think some poeple are getting two scenarios mixed up, one is where you open the frame up to build a break and make points which is the right thing to do. The other which is what I understood this thread to be about, is one guy smearing reds all round the table every frame in the first few shots making the frames all go scrappy and bitty. Thats what's I understood it as, which I think is a poor strategy
Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element

most people seem to go for the last but one red to break off

I guess it depends on the persons experience, break building, all sorts of factors... some people might just like doing it but I prefer doing that on pool not snooker.

I don't use side. Just plan ball strike but make sure the cue ball has to be about half ball distance from the brown. Just strike the last red with enough amount of power to bring the cue ball back to baulk area, at least.
