  • Potting from tight under the cushion

This is one of the "hardest" subject in snooker to master. I can only rate myself 6 out of 10 in performing this shot.

Neil has made his latest video here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrZYwUVgHwY

Let us discuss about this subject and his video above. Any POSITIVE input is appreciated.

    Cheers.

What is there really to discuss?

That video is a brilliant example of how to correctly do that sort of shot, what else?

I don't really know what you mean.. elaborate a bit more please?

One thing I have noticed on this shot, is the centre of the white is deceptive. It takes a bit of trial and error to discover exactly where the centre is. At least it did for me....

I hate it when your opponent puts you tight on the baulk coushion, what a pain in the arse.

I think this type of shot takes alot of getting used to and alot of wanting to punch a wall in two.

I agree that Neil's clip explains the proper way to hit the cueball to avoid common pitfalls...
ie. lowering cue too far and topping the shot, etc. quite well.
One thing I might add, advice which he didn't mention and which has helped me noticeably is to
consciously stroke this kind at shot at half your normal speed.
That's right. Half speed... and without fail make absolutely sure you hit the centre of the cueball.

Technically, what you meant here is applying the P3 shot. P5 is medium power shot. P10 is @ full strength.

I never really had a problem potting from tight on the cushion, when was in my teens and early twenties. Was only after years of listening to others say how hard it is, that it eventually made me think it WAS difficult, then that shot got harder for me - lol. A lot of it is in the mind!

                    No, he never...

It's a technique some use for getting a feel for the 'power' of the shot, p1 being the least power and p10 being full 'power'...

I cant be assed to explain it anymore than that, i'm watching the final,,,:snooker:

Have a search about and have and you will find what it's all about....

I do struggle on this shot because you can't do a huge lot with the cueball.

Not really, just because i don't know about P1-P10 doesn't mean i don't understand simple english of full power, half power, least power

shot at half your normal speed.
                          Or

Well no, technically you mean P2.5 but putting that aside, they're both saying the same thing, this P1-P10 thing is just making it lengthy and unnecessary

                            Stop arguing... jeez lol

brendan147 you take things very sensitive don't you?

You had a go at me earlier last week for me saying a joke which you probably took it the wrong way, can't we all just be friends and stop being so cocky?

For your info, this is one of Terry Davidson's basic lesson. So...you might think back whether it is necessary or not for you...otherwise...laughing without knowing your own purpose is very unnecessary....

To be polite with you, even P2, P2.5 and P3 shots are differents. But, if you don't like the idea of this "P" thing, so be it. Maybe it is not suitable for you.

                              Cheers.
