If you stick at a certain routine it will improve your play and if you are saying don't listen to what we are telling him... why would he ask the question?

For example take education - something everyone has gone through - sit and read the same subject/same material for too long and you just lose focus and nothing sinks in your head. If you tell yourself to keep reading because you must - the same happens, nothing goes into your head. I don't see why it's any different with snooker
And if you don't think frustration/boredom affects anything, then why do pros go out to take a breather after frames? To take a step backLast edited by Jonny; 24 January 2010, 01:41 PM.

right, going in a little while on my own but i get bored very easily although i dont know many people that go snookering. how does this sound for a few hours?:
long pots into far pockets for about 10 minutes.
straight pots for about 10 minutes.
potting the black off the spot as many times as poss for 15 minutes.
see what colour i can get to(yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black) for about 15 minutes.
spread balls around table and practise potting angles for about 15 minutes.
this sound ok? What else could i do?

Boredom and frustration will set in at which time you should take a step back and do something else then return to that routine. Quality of practice not quantity of practice

So in my first post earlier, potting long straight BLUE off its spot 10 times to each top pocket only took about 10 minutes or so.
Also, colours clearence 3 times in a row (if you can) within 1 visit is only take you around 15 minutes, more or less. TIME should not be a big deal in these 2 simple+basics routines.
In addition, playing a frame "against your otherself" will take you around +/-30 minutes or so. It is depends on how you wanna play it. I call this routine as MIND+GAME READING. This will test your own TACTICAL ability (positive/negative safety game and break building).
The key word here is, avoid the word "BORING" in doing whatever basic routine you might perform. You will be surprise to see the chart of your performance. Do it systematically so that you can work out which area is your weakness.
Also, if you seriously want to improve your skill, subscribe to www.thesnookergym.com. Loads of INFORMATION you can get there.
Just do your favourite basic routines with patient and passion and sytematically. Hopefully to see you in other thread and many high break ahead. All the best.
Cheers and CHOW.Last edited by brendan147; 25 January 2010, 04:41 AM.My cueing sucks

The simple straight shots may seem boring to practice; however, they will develop your stroke faster. The blue straight across the table would be a good shot to practice as others have stated.
Some instructors teach new players to simply practice cueing the white into a pocket straight.
Good Luck & most of all enjoy the game!Hendry, Davis, and Ronnie follower.
For those across the pond that care, I think Lewis will pulverize Jenson!

I went to Terry Griffiths and (probably due to my poor standard) he spent over two hours working on straight potting off the blue spot to the bottom pocket. His theory was that if your cue action is sound on straight pots then you progress to the next stage more easily. That said always enjoy your practice, so muck around with a variety of routines (fergals site is great) and don't bore yourself . This is a fun game so enjoy it. I just happen to believe the more you practice the more you can enjoy it!!! Also play as many different people as you can.
