I've been asked to coach 3 more players, 2 from my snooker league and 1 from my old pool league.

I charging them £10 per hour and they seem happy with that.

Is this the best way to get a good reputation?

Did think about doing some local advertising as well and replying to posts on here of people that are in the south east, or would that be stepping on over coaches feet who are on this site?

I hope you enjoy yourself at thesnookerfarm. I've heard Del is a very good coach and instructor and has a ton of war stories!

I haven't managed to fit Del in but I intend to sometime in the future. Just for my interests sake, what is Del's charge for either coach or senior/master coach?

Between expenses and training I've already invested probably over 5Kquid all told, but it has been enjoyable and I've learned an awful lot

            Jazzy,

Good move in booking up with Del.
The "Big Man" is very good at what he does and is a tremendous motivator for when the going gets tough.
He will give you "dummies to sook on when" that happens.

Ask him about them when you get there.

I have been coaching for 20+ years now and all I will say is that everyday is another learning day for both pupil and coach.

All the very best to you, I'm sure you will enjoy getting your eyes opened up to the finer points of this amazing game.

It won't be my main work to start with, but hopefully in the future it will be.

Thanks for the support Steve, really looking forward to doing the course.

                    Thanks Steve,

Is there any advice you would give some starting out as a coach?

Best advice I can offer is for you to get out and about Snooker Clubs and Snooker people.

Watch very closely good & bad players, you can very quickly begin to see the common elements that all good players tend to incorporate into their game and conversely you will see the poor technique and flaws that make for poorer play.

Being able to spot these things will get you into the mindeset for beginning to learn about coaching.
An analytical type of mind is required to enable a coach to become a good coach.

Go and work with some of the recognised coaches.
You will find the majority of them only too willing to help.

Try and avoid those that are quick to dismiss the talents or credentials of others, I normally find them to be either very egotistical or insecure of their own knowledge or both!

                      Good Luck mate.
It's a long path but worth every step.

                        Just a quick update.

I finally did my coaching course at The Snooker Farm, and what an eye opener it was. I learnt so much in the short time I was there.

So I'm now a Del Hill qualified snooker coach and can't wait to pass on what I learnt from Del.

Del is a great bloke, I can see why he's recognised as the best coach in the world.

I was just wondering,is it that simple to become a snooker coach in just some days?
In other jobs like a gym trainer you have to study for 4 years..
How can you learn everything about snooker so fast?

[QUOTE=Terry Davidson;463085]If you can become a good one and build a solid reputation like Del, Terry & Wayne Griffiths or else Nic Barrow then word of mouth will generally get you some decent business.

However, it is expensive to get certified. Not sure what Del charges for his but Griffiths Matchroom charge around 900quid for the 4 day training, the WSA charges 1500quid for 2 days and Nic Barrow is somewhere around 1000quid for 5 days to get your IBSF coaching certificate.

This is very true! Just because a coach is certified does not necessarily mean he is any good. Some of the best coaches i have encountered never had any qualifications or were affliliated to cowboy set ups. Take Frank Callan, he failed the BSCC exam, and hes the greatest coach that has ever lived!

I also remember back in 1994 that the WPSA would only let professional snooker players become coaches......jobs for the boys etc

It's like most businesses these days, if they are going to be successful a large perecentage of their business will come from word and mouth and recommendations.

Do you need a certificate to be a coach ?
If so, then anyone who pays their money and takes a course can become an instant expert according to the teachings of the course taken, even someone who has never played the game.
I would find it impossible to take advice from someone who can't do it themselves, let alone pay them for it.
