  • A forgotten secret of break building...

Ok maybe not forgotten for some of you making big breaks regularly but for me playing carefully in league matches and competitive play i managed to stifle my natural attacking style with a more consistent matchplay attitude.

However at the weekend a mate of mine pointed it out, "speed up when your on a break".

The result I was knocking everything in and confidence going.
Just thought I'd put it out there.

I tend to do this naturally without meaning to .. . the trouble is, I just play faster and faster as my confidence gets higher, and I end up like a runaway train - and we know what happens to runaway trains
Still, I know what you mean - I've struggled with 30 and 40 breaks playing at a measured pace, then suddenly got in the balls and knocked in a very fast seventy without thinking about it, before my train hits something.
But I don't think I'm going to fall over the century line by doing it ...

this is true! at my training session the other night i was getting frustrated with constantly missing simple pots, i found myself going through my stance, bridge and grip etc before each shot and found that if anything it was making me play worse. instead i did the opposite and limited myself to 10 secs per pot and 25 per safety. worked a treat and knocked in a 72!

I tend to do this, then miss.

Or someone will shout 50 or something when i get there which gets me all excited, then i'll miss lol

I just got few lessons from myself when I played last weekend. It s all about the natural rhythm of myself. I took myself a little time to look at potting angle/ strategy and the next easiest shot, confirming myself for the shot, then slowly take a deep breath and get down into the shot without breathing, slow feathering with approx 3-4 times and bang...!!!

I already get used with "no rushing" attitude in the game. This is very helpful in my break building and concentration.

This happens too me sometimes and its 50/50 how it will go-I can pot everything or may miss an easy one once and crash...
