  • ALWAYS missing to the left???

Hi peeps hope all is well...... wonder if i can pick anyone brains with a little problem i have

Ive noticed i keep missing shot hitting the left knuckle if potting to the right and vice-versa which i think can only mean im striking the right of the ball

ive heard that some people cue across the ball and put unintentional side, but i work at home in front of a mirror to keep my cue, elbow and forearm in line as all coaching books state, but when i play its like all that goes out the window and i miss...

any ideas or techniques to avoid cueing across ?

Hard to give any coaching without seeing your cue action...There is a common fault in a lot of players though and that is you may well be you are getting the line wrong (if cutting in)...don't draw (imagine) your line to the back of the pocket aim for the money:snooker: side of the pocket (the opposite knuckle)

I'm no expert but don't forget to check the angle of the c.b. off a cush to see if there is any spin accidentaly being put on.

        cheers guys will do

i guess with any change to technique its never gonna be quick to adjust....

will try the cush. idea and maybe it is just a matter of line/aim

          Try the following adjustments:

          1) decrease your follow through, check results
          2) increase your follow through, check results
Perhaps the point of hitting your chest is incorrect and you hit a chest slightly before your tip hits the cueball.
If you have any doubt about the point of hitting chest, try to deliver your cue very very slowly on perfect straight line and at the same time reach full-blooded follow through. Try to feel for the correct contact point on your chest that allows you to keep the straight line of the shot. 15 minutes of this routine will help you to find and remember this point.

          3) absolutely relax your grip
          4) overtighten your grip intentionally
Very tight grip also could damage the straight line of your shot (unintentional side)

Try this exercise i do, it ensures i always hit the white in the centre.
place white ball on brown spot and hit up and down the spots.
The white should hot the bottom cush and come right back along the spots, if it veers of to the left or right the you know your putting side on the ball.
Practice this untill the white goes up and down the spots with no problem.
(it's about working out why your putting side on)... stance maybe, cue middle of chin?
