  • Pain in the back of leg

    Facts:
    i'm right handed, right sighted, and use a square stance.

    one day, i played snooker 3 days back to back.
    by the second day, i developed a leg pain, the pain is more like a bruised one caused by the stretching of the right leg when making the square stance.

    after a couple of days, it was okay again. and then i started playing again. the same thing happened. the leg pain came back. the pain is coming from the back of the leg, mainly lower leg, around the back of the knee. it is a stretching pain, nothing serious.

    am i doing something wrong? this has never happened before and i was playing well.

    The more you play it will stop aching eventually,(your leg muscles will stretch and get used to the position) i started playing again recently after a few year break and my leg was aching like fook for a while...it's just not used to stretching into that position yet, once you play regualrly it will go..

      The pain you are feeling is due to the stretching in your hamstring.
      I would ask you to observe the position of the right foot.
      The reason is; if it is pointing in line with the shot, then you may need to change the direction.
      By simply turning the foot out to the right away from the shot, you should feel a big difference in the pain and be a lot more comfortable.
      Keep the heel on the line of the shot but just turn the toes out more to the right. this should fix this issue.

        I would agree with "the doctor" as there usually right (ye)

        whenever i concentrate on my stance and address the table correctly i have pain in my leg within 10/12 shotts ! luckilly im a pool player not snooker so i mostly just address the table in my natural way.
        i have only had this whilst getting coached or in practice, when i consentrate and when my leg is in line with the shot as explaned !

          I would agree with The Doctor to a certain point. However, I do specialise in occupational, sports and disability medicine and have to also side with Cally who rightly points out the following:

          However, your current "poor" posturing can potentially lead to long term consequences. Having said that I stand exactly the same way you do (the sacrifices we have to make for the sport and seeking perfection unfortunately). For health, The Doctors advice maybe best. For snooker, Cally's posture maybe preferred.

            I think your leg will get use to it, ronnie had a video on the bbc showing how to stand and he said you should feel a stretch when standind and ligs always expand so you leg will get se to this.
