  • picking up the pace of different tables

i usually play on a fairly slow table however as of last week i have got myself a coach and we play on a rileys ambassador heated table and it is lightening fast i was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks on how they adapt to a new table. All sudgestions are much appreciated.

    cheers Jon

no1 seems to have an answer to this 1 so is just to man up and deal with it or does practies like playing playing from the baulk line off the top cusion and back to the baulk line help or is there a better way of gauging the pace??

John snooker is full of challenges , aswell as constantly battling to get your technique and your cueing correct it,s also a challenge and a test to get used to and addapt to differnt playing conditions .

I dont think there is a secret , its just a matter of adapting accordingly after the first few shots .

If you happen to be in the mood to try something different then how about playing some billiards? I find this helps me to work out the pace of a table. The shot is described HERE and if you are able to play the in-off red and control the red so that it rebounds off the top cushion and returns to exactly the same position, you are doing very well. It is much more difficult than it looks but if you take time to practice it you may be surprised at how good you may be at it. You never know, you may enjoy billiards!

Fair point but I was only suggesting the one shot which happens to be played in billiards. You don't necessarily have to play every shot in billiards, and you don't have to play billiards properly. However, I do and I actually play billiards more than snooker and it didn't do me any harm!

If you are playing on a table that is faster or slower than you are used to, the main thing is to remind yourself of this before you get down on the shot. Visualise the whole shot stood up behind it, visualise it happening in your head on the extra fast (or extra slow) cloth. Then just get down and do it.

But whatever you do, don't forget about it, then remember when you are down on the shot, and then make alterations. Doing that, you'll probably miss the pot and position.

Umbongo is right when he says that billiards would help you with your snooker. Good luck

thatnks for the reply i agree with you visualising the shot i think will help a lot i kinda of do it subconsciously anyway I think, but if I really think about it before playing the shot I think it will help more. Thanks for your advise once again

                    cheers Jon
