Here's an exercise developed by Frank Adamson and shown to me by Nic Barrow.
Get down on the shot normally and DO NOT FEATHER THE BALL AT ALL. Just get down on the shot, stop the cue in the address position, check your line of aim and do not feather, just backswing and deliver.
You will be happy with how well you pot the long balls but do this in practice only, not in a match unless you really like it.
There is a new theory developing with a few coaches which is to reduce the amount of feathers down to 2 or maybe 3 and NO MORE. Even less, only one feather maybe as when feathering a lot of players will make tiny 'micro adjustments' with their body and throw themselves off the original line of aim the chose while standing behind the shot
