Blue on its spot, white on green or yellow spot

Hi all,

I am right handed, why i find it easier to pot blue on its spot, when white is on green spot, rather than yellow? I tend to be able to pot the blue when white is on green spot.

You are probably right eye dominant. It does not mean you need to play under this eye but usually this type of pot will favour someone with a more dominant right eye. The same as playing a high black, you will probablyfavour it from the green side of table as opposed to the yellow side. Not a big deal though.

Ocular dominance, sometimes called eye dominance or eyedness[1], is the tendency to prefer visual input from one eye to the other[2]. It is somewhat analogous to the laterality of right or left handedness; however, the side of the dominant eye and the dominant hand do not always match[3]. This is because both hemispheres control both eyes, but each one takes charge of a different half of the field of vision, and therefore a different half of both retinas. There is thus no direct analogy between "handedness" and "eyedness" as lateral phenomena.

Approximately two thirds of the population is right-eye dominant and one third left-eye dominant.

Do you think it makes any difference when cueing from the green side that the players bridge arm is resting on the cushion while on the yellow side it is on the table? What I mean is do you think it affects the body alignment a bit because the weight might be distributed slightly off due to the bridge arm resting a bit higher on the cushion. I know it is not suppose to change, but perhaps it does to certain people, what do you think?

I think position plays a part, as obviously the green side of the table is preferable to right handers.

However I prefer cuts to the right as well, and I am a right hander, and right eye dominant.
Also on shots where position plays no part, a cut the right is preferable!

So I am not sure as to why players prefer cuts from a certain side....

I believe so (I'm right handed) as I'm facing some difficulty positioning myself for shots on the green side of the table facing the top pocket (black pocket) towards the yellow side of the table, as I can't settle into the normal stance and have to either raise my leg onto the cushion rail, hence feeling quite out of place when down cueing.

Maybe my height is a restriction too (I have short legs, or feel I have them LOL!), so shots that require stretching (for my case would be either the case above, or when facing a pot from yellow side to top pocket green side and the angle is wide so I have to raise my left leg onto the cushion rail would cause me to feel really weird and unbalanced (so sometimes i opt to use the rest).

Any tips and advice?

These are tough shots you are talking about to be fair but i think most players have certain shots we are un comfortable with. For me its long shots down the green side of the table where the angle is around three quarter ball or a tad thinner.
Always seem to hit them too thick. I hate to use side unless its for position reasons but have found a half a tip of helping side works well on these shots for me.
What i mean by helping side is.. if the cut is to the left a touch of right hand side will help throw it over to the left. And vice versa.
Worth a try on your bogie shots but i wouldnt advocate it for all shots.

When I try to pot blue from yellow, looks like the shot is thicker but from the green side, it looks thinner. The blue still goes in from both sides. Does this mean that I am left eye dominant?

I've tried the finger pointing to chalk at end of table but none of my fingers is pointing at the chalk.

im left handed and yet right eye dominant, i can't help but feel that this combo is making miss shots most of the time.

Also because of this i hand problems walking into the shot

First click where it says "Forum" on the green strip at the top, then go to the relevent section you want to post in, for example cues, then on the left hand side you should see a yellow box saying "NEW THREAD" click on that then stick a title in, then move down to the main box and start typing, then click on "submit new thread"
