I was on for a total driveway clearance the other day, but halfway through my pre-shovel routine I noticed a couple of grains of gritting salt directly in my eyeline. I asked my girlfriend to clean it, but she refused because it was on the opposite side of the driveway.
Luckily, I managed to keep my concentration and clear up in one visit.
A new discipline has been introduced, threatening to displace the traditional snow shovelling.
The new short form is called rake n broom.
Equipment required: one garden rake as used to rake leaves/grass
and a broom
technique: rake fluffly snow to form nice high path border.
follow through: broom: technique required here is very similar to curling and I feel the Scots will have an inherent advantage with their experienced "broom action".
For those not familar with broom technique. A back and fore motion is required, followed by a good backswing and follow through which removes stubborn patches of snow from your path.

Speaking of new disciplines and formats > I have just heard some rumours about something called “Power Shovelling”. Anyone can confirm that? Clarifications badly needed.

No. It's all hot air - which will cause widespread thawing and it will be over very quickly.

You may have this confused with a minor discipline played by my Canadian friends, called Snow Blowing.
Equipment used: Leaf blower.

Whethere it is shovelling or blowing, several of you can come to my place and get plenty of practice in for free, with cuppa tea thrown in. I live on a corner, so there is quite a lot of practice needed to play properly.
I was aiming for a total clearence of the drive, two shovel fulls to go when the shovel bit into a raised stone in the concrete and I lost the load. Bloody typical, just when you're really motoring you go and get a kick.
Should I replace my concrete drive for a napless tarmac one ?
Looks like my shovelling days are over. The playing equipment has now vanished and I cannot find any local stockists at all.
Anyone want to buy a shovel?
you should maintain your equipment after a heavy day's play by use of a power hose to ensure your playing surface is running true and smooth, ready for your next game.
