Do you count your own break during a game or match?

During a amateur match without a ref, do you count your break even your opponent is counting inside their heads?

i find it distracting to keep count in my head and it messes up my shots, so i normally don't... however, i sometimes get a nagging feeling that i've scored more than what my opponent declared...

Depends if my opponent calls my breaks out whilst playing, if not then yes but only in matches i couldn't care less in practice.

Some people can do it and others cant...i have learned to do it over the year as when i was learning the game the people i was playing all got fed up with picking balls out the pockets for me all the time...and when i asked what break i was on they just said they cant remember...so for this reason alone i just decided to count my own break.When i was doing it at the beginning it would put me off big time but i have been doing it for 22 years and i still do it today...so like i say give it a try and see if you can get used to it.

Lol , i was playing one of my practice partners in the club a good few weeks ago and potted eight reds with either pink or black and one red with a green and my butty said 21 .

I thought he was kidding but he was,nt . I did,nt want to argue or question him as he,s a nice elderly fellow who,s been trying his hardest to beat me so i gave him the benefit of the doubt even though i was boiling inside .

Depends on who the opponent is!

i don't count normally as when I'm in the zone i lose track of things ,,lol,,, but i get my opponent to call out the break if playing in a competition,as been caught out before!!

I struggle to count whilst playing so I don't. If the opponent is counting out loud there is no problem, but if the opponent doesn't count out then i just make a point of asking him what break i'm on every time I get to about three red/colours!!

In Canada you have to as your opponent usually will count but sometimes you get back a lower score. I actually count mine out loud to myself as I make each colour ball

I also get in the ZONE!.....And Don't Count Anymore if I can Help it as I try and Concentrate on the Balls.

I have Noticed thou there are a few People I play I have to Keep a Eye On which does Break my Concentration abit....As a Good few Times I have Played them and I had Great Breaks they Say Break and I think No Way I have Potted 10/14 Reds and Colours etc....And Only Small Break!

I also like my Opponent in Tourny's or Matches to Speak Out Loud with the Break im on, Althou some Tourny's do have Referee's...lol

I used to Keep Score in my Head but I feel more Comfortable when in the Zone.

I do know Roughly thou what Braek it is as my Memory isn't that Bad yet!...ha ha.

when i do it i just quickly add up what i have scored, easy enough to get to 7 or 9

great idea, andy... seems simple enough to keep count like that, will definitely try that out...

i've met some obvious cheats before, even if it's just playing for lights... it throws me off my game more than the scoreline... :snooker:
