  • Snooker Coaching for Anyone Interested

I will be at the SouthWest Snooker Academy in Gloucester from April 11th to April 24th, 2011 and will be available for coaching from April 14th to anyone who would like to make the trip.

My rates are normally $50hr which translates to about 30quid per hour but for this trip I will drop my rate to 20quid per hour and suggest a minimum of either a 2hr or 4hr session. Table time is not included in my fee.

For these sessions I would be teaching mostly technique and giving the student the tools he (or she) needs to be able to deliver the cue consistently straight which is the secret to rapid improvement.

Open to all, from raw beginner to professional.

Sorry mate I know this may not be much help to you at the minute for bookings but I just wanted to register my interest with you.

Same as Caz and Coombes I will be able to confirm nearer the date, but definitely interested in this.

OK for JayCho, coomsey and cazmac. Right now I have bookings on 4/16 and 4/17 but every other day is free.

I'm sorry that I'm note sure about table time but I will have paid my share of the table as I am pre-paying for all 14 days at 40pounds per day so any student will only have his share to pay. I'm not certain if they do an hourly rate or only charge by the day or half-day.

Just a note on the rates and opening hours of the SouthWest Snooker Academy. According to their website they are only open Mon-Fri, 9am to 6pm and I've asked Janie to confirm this as they seem to have gone a bit towards a club environment and might have changed the days/hours.

Also, I believe you can only pay 40pounds for a whole day and there are no hourly or half-day table rates. However, this is not all bad as after a lesson you will have the remainder of the day to do solo practice and cement in any good advice I've passed along.

I figure these two things might change some of your plans so I thought I'd better let you all know well beforehand.

                Hi Terry,

As the table charges work on a daily fixed rate is there anyway that I could have two 1 hour sessions on a day

                Example

                10am-11am lesson
                11-2pm- solo practise/lunch etc

                2-3pm-lesson

                3-6pm- practise etc

                  Hi Terry,
I would be very interested in some coaching. I can't do after the 17th April, but any day up to then is good with me. Cheers

For everyone interested, I've heard back from Janie and I must say the people at the Academy are being VERY flexible and accommodating for me and any of my students.

They have offered to open the Academy on a special basis on weekends but only for my coaching and only if required, they have also made the same offer for later evenings if required. As they will bear additional staff costs I think this is more than fair and I hope we don't abuse the priviledge too much. However, weekend and after-hour bookings will mean table time as it's outside of normal business hours but 20pounds for 4 hours is a really reasonable rate for a facility of this quality in my view.

In addition, since I will have already pre-paid my daily table time on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, any lessons I give between those times means NO table time charged to the student (so you guys get a free ride on my dime - as we would say here in Canada).

They have also offered to have a half-session rate of 20pounds for a 4hr session as long as it's between 9am and 5pm on weekdays too.

I have no problem with anyone who wishes to book a 1hr or 2hr session with me in the morning and then takes a 4hr half-session with his own table to practice what I'm preaching and then coming back for another 1 or 2hrs with me.

To answer JayCho's question, no problem with your example and in that case you would pay 20pounds for your own table for a half-session and no table time with me as long as it's a weekday between 9-5.

I hope to see you all there and I know you will be impressed with the Academy and for those living within commuting distance of Gloucester they are introducing a membership plan with the details up on their website now. I doubt if you would find better practice facilities anywhere in Britain and I know for a fact better than anything in Canada, but that's another story.

One more comment. The Southwest Snooker Academy also has resident coaches, so if there happens to be a conflict with me for those who want to see the Academy, get some coaching then one of their coaches would be happy to do a session or two.

They would just need a decent head's-up so they can schedule you in.

I recon 4 hours is what I'd like too!

It looks like you'e going to have a very busy time at the Academy Terry.

We're really looking forward to your visit and it will be a pleasure to welcome all the coaching pupils down for their lessons and some practice sessions too.
