  • Wanting to get somewhere in snooker

    Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone could put some opinions on this. I've been playing snooker for 2 years now like messing around in the club that sort of stuff. About 3 months ago I just started taking it seriously got my own cue and stuff got coaching going on once every 3 weeks just rose to be able to make a consistent 25 break as apparently I have a naturally decent action. I also have a lot of free time in the evenings and the clubs around here are only 2.50 an hour if i play alone so i could practice 5 times a week for 2 hours solo so would anyone think that if i worked hard at it after 1 year I would a) be able to make regular nice breaks and b) be able to get somewhere good with snooker like pro am competitions may be even higher within 2 to 3 years max?

    Thanks again

I have just turned 20 btw

Hi Scorpio. Firstly I would ask you what your goals are? Are you simply looking to be apart of a team in a local league or do you want to be that little bit better?

Most importantly of all I would encourage you at this early stage of your game to simply enjoy the game, dont over complicate things (This game is complicated enough) and listen to as much advice from as many different people as you can. Dont copy anyone take any little piece of advice but mould it into your own way at the table.
Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. Yeah I am trying to enjoy it mostly and primarily. However I just noticed that I have so much free time in the evenings and I am not the type to go out and waste time often and besides its cheap to practice snooker so I thought why not? So I am able to practice pretty much most nights for 2 or 2.5 hours about 4 - 5 times a week. I have seen my game rapidly improve and am being coached. In terms of ambitions with it....I would like to get basically to a standard where I could score heavily when in on the balls and with that be able to play in whatever league available but preferable that little bit higher standard where like you could get noticed or something

But yeah thanks again any other replies are very much welcomed

honestly just look to play local league, imo your too old to play at a higher level than that now. I am 2 years older than you have been playing in my local league since i was 10, but when i was your age i played alot of competitions and travelled around. i was making between 6-10 100's a week. the game at pro am level is an unreal standard at times, so this might sound harsh but if you work very hard and practice what your coach tells you and take it seriously you might be able to become a good player in your local league. Just enjoy it i became a very nasty person and someone who i didnt like becuase i couldnt accept the fact i was not quite good enough, now i play twice a week and enjoy it.

You play twice a week and make 6-10 100s a eek? There's a lot of people that would love to be of that standard.
