    What nrage says above I originally got from Steve Davis as I was looking for an answer to the question for not only myself but also my students when you say grip the cue like you would a hammer but not as tight. The next question was always 'how losse?".

    The method outlined which is the butt of the cue should be able to slide easily in the grip is the best answer i've found.

    The reason for a loose grip is if a player starts out with a tight grip then almost always that player grips the cue too tight and too early in the delivery which will cause shoulder movement and pull the cue off-line.

    Let the cue do the work under the positive control of the player. Exactly the same method is taught in golf by the way

      if i try a really loose grip i think i tighten up to early. its as if i feel like i'm gonna throw the cue across the table otherwise!...

          what i would normally do is, during the final backswing, i would make a mental note on the chin where the cue would be rubbing against. On the follow through, i will try to imagine hitting the dead centre of my chin.

          make sure the arm stay completely still, hit with the elbow. =)

              Hi cazmac1;

              I watched your videos of your class with dell hill. Dell explains you something about uncock your grip hand before the delivery and also mention something about the little finger and palm. The video shot don't show your grip hand, could you explain what that uncock/little finger is about?

              Thanks

                Basicly Del says that when you go down on the shot and address the white ball the hand should be closed, IE plam of the hand touching the cue. When he says uncock he basicly means that when you draw back the cue the hand should open. how much the hand opens is directly proportional to the amount of power required.
