  • Why is there a delay when i screw the ball

    Hi
When i do a screw shot, the white ball seems stopped for a second before taking on effect and return intensively, why is there a delay, what defect in my action could have caused this? Could it be cue balance? MAny thanks

Thats quite normal mate the ball has to change from moving forward to moving backwards, this doesn't happen immediately

momentarily the cue ball will stop before the backspin takes effect, its not a problem with you or your technique mate. Take a look at robertsons screw back for a split second the white stops before the backspin takes effect

As said above, it is simply the object ball has struck another object ball, and is still spinning backwards. The reason for the delay is it is spinning very fast and trying to get a grip on the surface. As soon as it catches a grip, it starts moving, and within milliseconds had caught full bite, and moves a lot faster. Its a perfectly natural thing with screw shots, not a problem with your action.

Very much like a car doing wheelspins before takeoff

Might have to do with the felt being a little skiddy.

Three possible reasons: cloth is slick (or completely worn), cue ball is slick (at my club they wax and clean them regularly), or you just have a lot more spin than can be handled by the friction between the cue ball and cloth.

I would say it's bad cloth. New cloth properly installed should have "bite" once the waxy coating has worn off.
