  • Who's the man????????

Say you're like me, struggling for consistency, willing to travel to learn and a little bit of spare cash to throw at trying to improve your game and get some consitency in my action and game.

Who are you going to go and see?

    Del Hill?

    Nic Barrow?

    Somebody else?????
    One day I'll make a century, I've knocked in a 51!

I would have been to see him by now if he didnt live so far out in the sticks like..

I do plan on going up oneday though, del is the man with the plan, i like his way of teaching very much, no nonsense get on with it and his own style to boot, unlike some that just 'copy' and 'paste' other ppl's 'words' techniques etc etc...

        Del every time i reckon...

I reckon the 2 most important things in picking a coach is that they know their stuff, and can relate it to you. We can assume all the top coaches know their stuff, so that just leaves how good they are at relating to people, specifically you and your specific personality.

My impression of Nic Barrow (from videos/website/etc) is that he is a fairly clinical thinker/player who has analyzed technique to find what works and what doesn't. I would say theory/analysis comes first and feel/touch comes second with him. So, if you're a player who just wants to 'do' something vs 'thinking' and 'analyzing' it you might not like his style.

I don't know much about the other coaches, I have seen some very short videos with Dell Hill but not enough to really form an impression of him as a coach. He seems fairly down to earth to me, so would probably suit most people.

There is also Terry Griffiths and the on Q promotions team, I believe they have coaches/coaching on offer in Glocester and the facilities there are top notch (it's where I had my session with Terry D).

I think Frank Sandell does some coaching .. and I've only heard good things about him:
          web: www.franksandellcuesport.co.uk
          e-mail: franksandellsnooker@ntlworld.com

This guy is not too far away from you (more than an hour tho):
          http://www.121snookercoaching.com/

There was someone who posted on the forum recently about a good coaching experience, but I cannot recall the coaches name..

I've only seen 2 coaches myself, Terry D and a guy in Epsom so I have no 1st hand experience to help you with, sorry.

            Hi,

I have been to see Del Hill twice now and would have no hesitation in recommending him.

He has transformed my cue action and is the nicest guy. You will be made to feel exceptionally welcome, he will keep you lubricated with coffee and if you are there for a while, you will probably get a sandwich as well.

It is a 3 hour trip for me to get to him and I have to say it is worth every minute. My plan is to go and see him twice a year for my MOT.

He is the best in the business and if you are serious about improving your game, you will not find a better coahc

For me it would be Wayne Griffiths (Terry's son) in south Wales and also Gavin York (coachgavin) in Northampton and here on TSF.
                  Up the TSF! :snooker:

With Del you have to go there with the knowledge that he will completlely change your cue action and you will basically have to start again from scratch (if you cue the ball a certain way of course). I know people who say they've gone to the farm and it's completley transformed their game, and otherswho say that it's wasted years of their career.

I don't have a career and if it's a case of being stripped back to improve them maybe so be it!

I have been going to see Nigel Bond locally (Del coaches him.) and my game improves every time I got to see him, his arm sticks out like mine too so that makes me feel better about mine, but I do feel I need to get that sorted if I'm to become a more consistant break builder as well as the good long potter I am, I need to be able to knock in a 30 break after the long reds, with me it's usualy a colour after and maybe another read and colour if I'm lucky and then I lose position or miss a simple pot, which annoys me greatly!

Anyone coached by Stephen Feeney before, who invented SightRight? He lives near me and I saw him, at a distance, coach at Rileys before.

My experience of Del is that he does not strip your game apart at all. I would have thought that the only reason for doing that would be if the fundamentals of your action were terrible to start with.

He has a specific way that he "wants" the cue delivered which improves accuracy, timing and cue power and he works with your action to achieve that. You only have to look around his room to see the pro's that have been to see him over the years as testimony to his ability and how well regarded he is in the game.

DWOT - I warn you know, if you go once, you will want to go back to see him so get saving lol. Joking aside, Del is the first to say that you only need to see him once or twice a year.
