    The thumb should be pointing straight down to the floor. For those in doubt check any of the pros with a normal cue action (please...not Jamie Cope!)

      "thumb straight down, pointing at the floor" this benefits on two issues, 1) ensures you have a nice kink of the wrist away from the body, and 2) ensures that the forefinger is the main/only digit holding the butt helping with a light grip.
