  • Cannot get solid on a shot, ever

    Hey everyone
I figured this'd be the best place to ask, its a problem which has troubled me literally since the day I picked up a cue. Whatever I do, I cannot (or extremely rarely) ever seem to get 'solid' and comfortable when down on a shot. I know if I could somehow fix this I would immediately improve by at least 200%.

Its difficult to put it into words really; I'm doing the 4 points of contact with my foot on the line of the shot but it just feels like the cue isn't sitting nicely on my chest and I can feel it sliding around, and by the time I deliver the cue I can feel it moving way off line because there's just no solidity. Only very very occasionally can I ever get down to a shot and feel even half comfortable. I feel so envious when I watch other players who can just get down straight away and be instantaneously comfortable and solid.

Curiously I found yesterday, if I just get down to the table with no white ball and pretend to cue up to it, I don't actually feel too bad. Then if I do the same whilst cueing up when the white ball is there, it all goes horrendous again!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your not walking/dropping into the shot properly fella.

Terry or nrage will be along soon with an in depth reply for sure that will talk you through the process...

I have this problem as well if I try to follow the general rules when getting down on the shot, being a big lad (6ft with a 48" chest, calm down lady's!) I just put it down to that, I have found I play better if I follow the rules and don't lock the cue in than if I adopt a posture where the cue is locked in.

You could try to video yourself playing to try and see what the problem is, and if you can't see it post it on here and I'm sure someone else will be able to. I'm sure someone will be able to help you :snooker:

Yes, please post a link to a video because your question can't be answered right now. There should be no problem getting down comfortably into a shot no matter what a player's physique is and also comfort is the most important thing so you should get it corrected

I'm glad you say that as I was starting to worry it might be something physical about me that was preventing me from getting down properly to a shot. I'll get cracking on a video.

            Cheers
