  • Long distance coaching

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if you knew of any coaches who would be willing to coach someone via video/webcam and the like.

I live in a failry rural part of Australia and don't have access to a coach. The closest one that I have found is about 1200 km's away so it's not really an option.

I don't actually have a webcam or a video recorder atm but I wanted to find out if there was anyone who is willing to coach someone using this method before I spent any money.

    Thanks in advance

www.thesnookergym.com Nic Barrow is also doing video analysis.
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table

        Cheers for the reply.

I had a bit of a look around this site and found something that said it is temporarily unavailable?

Sent an email away asking about it so I guess I'll find out soon enough if it's an option or not.

        Looks good though.

Thanks, I have sent an email to Nic as well because his website talks about video analysis but that's about the end of it.

Hopefully I can get something sorted with either Nic or Terry.

Thanks again for the replies and help.

I think the reason for Terry's software not being available is that it was created using a lot of help from his son, Wayne, who is also a very good coach. Wayne is an expert with the software but I think he recently got a job as the head coach in Hong Kong or something and so that is probably the reason why they are not offering the service at this time.

If you can send me good videos from the angles I ask I could coach you via email and instant messaging. I would look through the videos and send you a report giving some of your biggest faults and how you can correct them. I can also give you other advice regarding matchplay etc. Just private message me if you think you may be interested.

              8 ball:

A few of the coaches and of course players on here will give you valuable comments if you can post a video on youtube and post a link in here. Just make sure to get some shots from straight on and then some from the side showing the grip hand (with good lighting on the hand).

Also, if you wanted to record a DVD and mail it to me I can analyse it and send it back to you with comments and corrections.

The problem with using Skype and webcams is the video quality. You would need to put extra lighting on and would have to get your webcam stable and in the right position. It can work using a tripod and also one of those construction lights with legs, as I would have to be able to see the grip hand in action. However, I couldn't use it will the frame-by-frame analysis which is what I've found to be the most valuable tool

Sounds good. I don't really want to annoy people too much with a long winded thread about me as I'd be looking to get pretty involved in how to improve and what not.

I can't pm yet... apparently I need to have 10 posts under my belt for this to be enabled so I am close.
