  • cue rising in air

    hi,
I want to ask that whenever i complete the shot my elbow goes down a bit and cue rises in the air off the bridge hand and then return on the bridge hand again. All this happens after the shot is over. But i have seen that the cue remains on the bridge even after pro players complete their shot.Does that have anything to do with timings?

I think your grip hand is to tight on the cue... someone else?

Cue: Brazilian Bented cue 9.5mm - Tip hard as hell

The dropping of the elbow, ala Ronnie, has been discussed often on this forum (do a search and review the hits for further information) but yes, I also do think that your grip is too tight at the final stages of the delivery and also possibly your wrist is not flexing at this point.
I look forward to any further replies from the "official" coaches on TSF on this subject.
Have you always dropped your elbow or is it a recent movement in your delivery?
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

it all happens after the shot whether i drop the elbow or not .after the shot is over it will drop further and the cue rises in the air and then again comes back on the bridge although it does not cause any problem since it all happens after the shot is over

I think the main reason why the elbow drops is down to the stance . If your stance is too near it means your back will be crouched and youre elbow will be high . To stop this happening put your back foot further back , this will flatten your back and lower the elbow .

If you need an example of this just look at O,Sullivans stance when he was younger , his back was a lot flatter and there was less elbow drop . The reason why he drops his elbow so much now is that his stance is far more upright and crouched .

              Why O,Sullivan changed his stance?

O sullivan has changed a lot of his technique over the years and I believe stance is one of them. Anyway, back to original problem. It could be a number of things. Grip too tight is one of them which leads to scooping action. Also it can happen if you are not addressing the cue ball in the correct place for the spin you require. This leads players to adjust their aim on the delivery by dropping or raising the elbow. Try loosening your grip and aiming on the white exactly where you intend to strike it. Practice first with just the white. Hit it up and down the spots making sure your cue does not come off the bridge. Concentrate on bringing the cue back and forth smoothly along the plane. Hope that helps.
