In one of my previous threads i asked everyone about what they think about the most difficult thing in snooker, everyone had different answers from their own perspective.
The answer which i had but didnt tell anyone only seem to match with answers from Nic Barrow and Terry Davidson, its good to see there are other people in this forum who think alike.
But anyway, i was really excited about the half day coaching session i booked with Nic in mid December, finally it was 4th Jan and i was sitting in a midland train to wolverton with great excitement. The whole of the half day was dedicated to how to control the cue and if you want the white to float like a swan in a lake, may be you guys dont know what i am on about but i am sure Nic will elaborate on that as a reply to this thread.
Nic isnt Cheap option for coaching but you get what you pay for. He seemed very organaised.
Asking me very specific question related to my game and writing the answers down, what a professional approach to coach.
Asked me what do i want out of the session and in the long run.
Finally he went straight down to business, unintentionally i was wasting time cracking jokes and talking about irrelevant topics Nic then interrupted me an put me back on track, it was good to see that he wanted me to make most out of the time he was giving me.
I asked for Dartfish analysis which i think is the main feature of his coaching service, he recorded a number of shots and gave me his on the spot review on them, but soon i think he will send me the link of fully analysed dartfish videos fo my game along with a writen summary.
It was a good day with money wisely invested in coaching rather than saving up for a magic JP ultimate cue worth a grand.
Just didnt like the walk to the club in that freezing cold windy day, he later than told me that he didnt know himself how far the wolverton station was from the club and told that he will try to upload the direction how to walk from wolverton to his club, that will prevent a lot of his clients being lost while trying to walk to his club.
but he was nice enough end of the day to give me a lift to the station which saved me another 12 minutes walk in a freezing windy day carrying 3 cues.
If some people thing Nic is too much into the details, they are wrong, he will only get into the detail just enough, so that the player can UNDERSTAND the shot rather than just playing it right.
i was previously by another Grade A coach Del Smith, so he didnt have to have to explain the "meaning of the bridge"
or the "philosophy" behind the stance, all he did was let me play few shots, have them recorded, showed me where the flaw was, and then no blah blah blah just bang - straight on how to have the corrected.
I practiced for four hours after the coaching sessions, he then just came around the table to find out how was i doing and told me that comparing to how was i playing this morning my cue action transformed to a different league, as if by end of the i was a different player with a brand new and much improved cue action.
Would i recommend him? o heavens yes, and if you are going to be coached by him if you dont go for the dartfish analysis service you will be missing out a lot.
he is in the forum, so just ask him what sam is on about the "cue moving like a swan" or , he might provide an interesting answer.
