  • Playing Over The Spots With No side ?

Does the not being able to play over the spots with no side bar you from ever becoming a good player ? The reason I ask this question is that at my club there are some very good players but some of them are far from perfect when playing over the spots but they still play well and put balls in pockets. I spend ages in my warm up getting it just right, I know all coaches teach this, would like some input on this question.

When you cannot shoot the spots accurately it means you are not delivering the cue straight and to the middle of the cueball.

However, there are a lot of players who are not able to do this but still deliver the cue consistently and eventually their brain unconciously works out the correct line of aim for their imperfect cue delivery.

As long as you stay still on the shot and do something wrong but are consistent at it you would improve however this player would never be able to get to the top amateur level since if he is applying unintentional side on every shot then under different conditions and different lengths between the cueball and object ball he would have to unconciously adjust and alos the amount of power applied would come into it too

Excellent response Terry. This player can become a good consistent player but might never be able to reach a regular century standard.
