  • Tip To Ball

How important is it that you address the cue ball with your tip as close as you can get it (within reason)?

What faults might be caused if you held the tip back too far in fear of a penalty?

As a golfer I always held the clubface a way back from the ball and was always being pulled up for it by my coach - he said it was better to have a foul 1 or 2 times a year accidentally touching it rather than not having the focus and precision of putting it up to the precise point of impact.

Just been thinking about how this relates to snooker.

    Any thoughts?

ive always been told the reason to have your tip close to the cue ball is to minimise the margin of error for cueing off the centre of the cue ball. also it is important for addressing the cue ball correctly as wen ur tip is almost touching the cue ball, your cue arm should be at 90degrees, that way any follow through from the 90degree point is translated through the cue ball, and not lost in the space you lost between tip and cue ball at the address position

    hope that helps
