How important is it that you address the cue ball with your tip as close as you can get it (within reason)?
What faults might be caused if you held the tip back too far in fear of a penalty?
As a golfer I always held the clubface a way back from the ball and was always being pulled up for it by my coach - he said it was better to have a foul 1 or 2 times a year accidentally touching it rather than not having the focus and precision of putting it up to the precise point of impact.
Just been thinking about how this relates to snooker.
Any thoughts?
