  • Curing the Hanging Elbow

    Hi all,
I have been trying to get my cueing arm and elbow lined up perfectly with the shot but its easier said than done! I have tried to post this thread before but it needs moderator permission as it had youtube videos of myself included so for now words will have to do.

I have improved it significantly but my elbow is still 'hanging' as I remember Terry Davidson calling it, slightly towards my body. When I drop the elbow to drive through the white, my elbow does not drop in a straight line; instead it sharply comes into my body, pushing the cue through to the left. I can feel my forearm not quite moving in a straight line when addressing the white ball; feels like its moving from outside to inside.

I have read that perfect alignment is not necessary but for me I feel it is as it is causing unintentional side, sometimes left sometimes right. Amazing how the cue is pushing through to the left but still gets right hand side on eh? Its massively affecting me under pressure, my highest match break being 50 and my highest in practice 143.

If anyone has any drills or suggestions how to get it all in line I'd be super grateful.

    Cheers
    Joe

I think it will be better when you get a video up. It will be easier to see exactly what is happening. I would start by getting your address position sorted so that your elbow is directly over you cue and head and not 'hanging'. In the address position this is not a moving part so it should be easy to correct this part using a video camera or mirror.

Yeah it really is a nightmare. What I've noticed aswell, is that my cueing arm is inside my shoulder which is what I feel is causing the elbow to 'hang'. I'll have a try in the club tomorrow again at trying to get the arm elbow and shoulder all nicely lined up with the shot line, which hopefully should correct the fault.

      Here's the video:

I've made a video, submitted a reply with the link in but it needs moderator approval. If you go to youtube and search for joesyd, it should be the first video that comes up.
