  • Snooker Angle help?

I'm playing about 2-3 hours a day now pretty much every day I watch loads at the club and on tv to pick up what i can so I feel I understand the game better, I'm still not racking up consistent 10+ breaks, I've been playin constant since I started about 3 months ago before I wasn't atall serious now it's probably the thing I love and concentrate the most I've been told by a coach I have it in me but I think my problem is I find it hard to play with side and play running and check to end up correctly on the next ball, as in I don't understand and know when to think "right I need this sort of side to end up this side of the black" etc I know what shots to play sort of just not how to get there! Is there any simple way of knowing which side if any is appropriate, Please help any tips would be much appreciated! I really wanna start making 10-15+ breaks regularly but plain ball top or bottom is not right for every single shot surely?

Don't even think of playing with side until you are a better player, you are just going to make things very difficult.

Playing with side changes the potting angle it will confuse you until you have a true understanding of spin and geometry

Leave the side alone until you understand the concept. Basics are your first and most important part of your game because when you have been playing for years and you are in a slump you will always go back to the basics. A good coach should let you know when its time to start using side and how to apply it.

I've been playing 3 years and i only use side when the pot is very easy, most of the time you don't need it. If you put side on the ball it pushes the cue ball off line and you'll miss the pot if you don't compensate. Keep things as simple as you can

Stop using side for anything except the break, and the occasional safety shot. Instead concentrate on top, bottom and getting on the next ball in such a way that you do not need side to get on the one following that. For practice, just line all the reds up down the table between the black and blue spots (place a few further up/down as you prefer to leave a reasonable space between each ball). Then just pot them, but try to get on a specific red without using side. Ideally you won't come off a cushion at all. The last few balls will need more work, and here you might introduce a bit of side once you are comfortable with the potting/basics.
