I was once again playing 8 ball tonight, played really bad once again, it is getting quite boring now, well on the bright side i did my first break and dish tonight after the league match, played really bad in the match, typical hey, but anyways, moving on, i did try some things out that jumped in my head which then resulted in the break and dish, first off i made sure, even though i think i have been doing it anyways, that my chest went down to the cue, not cue up to chest, that my chest/peck was lightly brushing the cue, i normally lightly touch the cue on my chest/peck but mainly do it on the longer shots, that there was good chin to cue contact, and that i was following through to my chest on most shots, i say most as sometimes i forget to do it as its a new technique for me, but one of the most important things that i did, which i have seen pro snooker players do is when down on the shot, when you look at the object ball, to lift the eyebrow so you get a better view, i found this immediately improved my potting, what do you think of the things i am doing, are they all the right way to go, and what do you think of the eyebrow technique, does anyone use it, does it work better for you, as i am sure it did for me?.

New Technique, Improved My Game!

My game has been rather inconsistent of late and couldn't understand why I was missing relatively easy pots until one of the top players in my area was watching a match I was playing and had a chat we me after the game.
He mentioned that when I'm potting a difficult shot I stay rock sold still on the shot but when there's an easy shot there's quite a bit of head movement during the shot hence potting difficult ones but not easy ones!
I took what he said on board and now I'm playing decent pool again by concentrating on being still on the shot during and after delivery. Strange how no one noticed or decided not to tell me before this time and it's something that you don't notice yourself doing even though you know the fundamentals.
Glad you've found something that hopefully is the key to greater consistency.

OK, joking aside about raising the eyebrow. Much better you have your head lifted up enough so you don't have to raise the eyebrows to see the object ball. However, Joe Johnson did this and he made a few balls now and again.
My main difficulty with it is it's just one more thing to remember which is not good for snooker or pool.
Staying still throughout the shot and driving through the cueball until the hand hits the chest are much better points to work on

I figured someone would make some sarcastic comment, but remember Joe Johnson is famous for this eyebrow raising when looking at the object ball (quite funny actually when he's feathering).
Since a player should be able to pot balls with his eyes shut I just cannot see the value in raising the eyebrows but I thought I would give an answer anyway. It's more likely the raising of the eyebrows took the concious mind off the actual technique and that would have made everything a little smoother.
As I said, tilting the head up sufficiently to see the object ball clearly is the best and most used (and practical) solution but perhaps this player's neck isn't flexible enough and he would be uncomfortable. Of course perhaps the solution would be to shave the eyebrows off altogether!

Anyway I've moved on from eyebrow raising now and am concentrating on independant ear wiggling. Basically my plan is to wiggle my left ear if I am trying to make a pot to a left hand pocket and the reverse for right hand pocket pots.
I considered using left ear wiggle for shots played with left hand side and vice versa but I'm not actually very good at snooker so I only really use side on safeties, and I want to get maximum leverage out of my ear wiggling ability.

Why do you need to shave the eyebrows, i also think mark allen does this too, lifts the eyebrows, for some reason i just found it worked better for me, i can see the object ball loads better, and as my eye vision isn't all that great this helps with the long pots, i am not sure if i will still do it when i get contacts but if it works for me i dont see why not, when i have my next game of pool i will see if it really did help me, or if it was the fact that i was driving through the ball and hitting my chest with the grip hand, but saying that i've done that before with the eyebrow lifting and my pots still seemed rubbish.
