  • Need a technical master!!

Hey guys and girls I have set my camera up again whilst I played some pots off the pink spot into the black corner.
Ive noticed a little bit of head movement on screw shot can anyone offer suggestions?

    Heres the link

After a few shots I raised my chin about .5 of a cm which helped.

Yes, there seems to be a small amount of head movement, more on some shots and less on others. The bridge shoulder looks stable, except on a few shots, but we can't see the other (more important) shoulder, or the grip arm/elbow very well.

    Grab a copy of Kinovea:
    http://www.kinovea.org/en/?page_id=3

Load the video in and watch it in slow motion. Add some lines along the top/side of your head/shoulders and watch again in slow motion to see how much movement there is.. it doesn't look too bad on most shots, from what I can see, but ideally you want none

I suspect the cause of the head movement is the cue pushing on it. I suspect the reason the cue is pushing on it is because when the grip hand comes through, it is raising the butt and lifting the cue into the chin. If I'm right, then there are 2 possible courses of action. If you're happy with the angle the cue is on (I think it may be too steep myself) then you want to concentrate on trying to bring the grip hand along the cue plane. I would try to get the cue lower, check the video and note how much space there is between the cue and rail, this should be 1-2 inches at most IMO. Once you have the cue lower, I think you'll find the grip hand will naturally not rise as much. This lower position will affect the chest contact point, unless you get your body a little lower to compensate, and that in turn will affect the shoulder, so be aware of that and that it may take some time to adjust.

So, the next step is to get a side on video showing the full cue, cueing arm and have the white just in frame so you can see the contact. Check the angle of the cue (at address, full backswing, and full delivery), the height about the rail, etc.. do this now, and do it again after you've lowered the entire action and compare.
