HI, I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago but hung fire till now to post.
Having played snooker as a boy but being rubbish i gave it up for years, now my boy has grown we looked around for something to do together and stumbled on the idea of a few frames of snooker together, although being rubbish i always enjoyed and followed snooker so we gave it a go, now the years were not kind and i was as bad as ever, and as before i chopped and change my stance, convinced myself i wasnt cueing straight, and all the old frustrations came back, so much so that i thought, thats it im going to see someone and if there is no hope i am packing it in.
That someone ended up being Jim Donnely in Glasgow, my son and I booked a full day between us and on the day Jim sorted out my sons stance and got him cueing lovely and straight, and after dinner it was my turn.
"get down and pot a few as you normally would" said Jim, and after doing so i waited for everything to be pulled to bits, to my amazment Jim said"thats excellent i cant fault it, i wouldnt change a thing, pot a few long blues" well i got the odd one and missed most "just increase your back pause a little bit, you do then dont, so i want to see it this time, and as you are missing by the same amount in the same place its your sighting , its nothing to do with your cueing ,you have one of the best cue actions i have seen, i have only said that to maybe 5 people in the past he said, (now i dont know if he was just being kind, but even if he was it was a very nice thing to here) aim to hit bottom cush knuckle, " well, bang straight in the middle of the pocket ,then bang again bang again then an inch out then a proper wobble(only pace kept it out i think) we then went on to learn the fan system and shots i didnt even know existed it really opened my eyes on the game.
well i went to practice today, 5 long blues down either diagonal ,9 out of 10, black off the spot splitting 3 reds with pink and black on table(to practice fan system) and if i split them i got to carry on scoring, cleared them on 4 or 5 occasions and potting pink and black once reds were done breaks of around 40 UNBELIEVABLE all those wasted years of thinking it was my stance and cueing and Jim fixed it for me in basically 2 hours, so dont give up hope, and go and see Jim I can not recomend him Highly enough, im not saying i dont miss now but if i pause and dont keep looking where the white is going before i have potted the object ball( i like to admire my work before i have done it lol)i just dont seem to miss, I WISH I HAD GONE 30 YEARS AGO ,Thanks again Jim.
