I had ordered a pearwood shafted 3/4 cue from Dan Shelton about 2 years ago, and you know how far that got (I'm out almost 200quid). I understand pearwood has more flex than ash and you get a real 'snap' with it

Yes, Dean said that. Didn't MW try and complete the order for you as one of the disgruntled customers?

MW told me he didn't actually complete the orders himself but rather was encouraging Dan to complete his own orders. I'm not sure if MW let Dan use his workshop during quiet period or not, however my pearwood cue was on the list but I haven't heard anything on it in months from either MW or Dan
