Right, well just some things i want to share with you people really, and hopefully can help me out here, or maybe you have had the same problem and have solved it yourself. When playing 8 ball pool, i know it isn't snooker and it isn't as hard to pot the long shots, but you do still need to be quite accurate, well when i try and pot the long shots i seem to miss them more than not, i have some some experimenting as i have been reading loads about having the cue rubbing against the chest and not, well it seems the balls seems to reach the pockets more when the cue is free and away from my chest, but when getting down on the cue and putting my chin too it, it is quite difficult to keep the chest away from the cue, unless i move to the side of the cue slightly, are there any tips on how to avoid the chest and is it such a big deal to have it rubbing the chest slightly, should it impact my potting as much as i say it does, also when i seem to pull the cue back it seems to pull into my chest, is this normal or am i not keeping the cue on a level straight line, tips and suggestions much appreciated?.

If you can upload a video of your cue action (to youtube) and link it here, we can probably help. It's much harder to give accurate advice from a description than a video. The video should show your cue action from dead in front, the side (with the cue on it) and behind if possible."Do unto others 20% better than you would expect them to do unto you, to correct for subjective error"

tommy:
You are not supposed to be 'centered' on the shot, or at least the body isn't. The nose (or near the nose depending on if you feel you should cue under your preferred eye), so the head, right shoulder, right elbow and right foot should all be on the line of aim which is to the RIGHT side of your body.
You should twist the hips to the left to get your centre of gravity of the upper body evenly over both feet so in effect your butt is over to the left, the back is flat and in a line sort of 45degrees or so to the cue so your head ends up over the line of aim of the cue
