  • Right Hand v Left Hand etc

    Hey all,

Simple question, im a right handed player who for some reason play snooker left handed - now i know there isnt a massive problem, as several pros do this, but in reality, is there a disadvantaged to playing this way................ reason being, im a right handed individual who has always played right handed in every other sport, im dominant right eye etc - but find it really strange i have always played left handed.

My coach had mentioned to me its quite odd i cue under my right eye but am left handed...........

Any way, back to the question, surely over the years i have gained better motor skills in my right hand, so would it be better playing right handed??

    Thanks

Depends how good you are? Why don't you play right handed for a month and see how it goes?

I'm the same i am right handed for everything but play snooker with my left hand........i dont hold the cue under my right eye though as it just feels weird and i can never use my right hand as i can barely hold the cue and bridging with my left hand is nigh on impossible.

I was talking to Gary Wilson about the cueing under the opposite eye as he does it and he just said it's what you get used to that counts
It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

It's true, it's what you are used to that counts.

I'm left handed and couldn't even pick my cue up with my right hand if I wanted to... And I'm right eye dominant too, as are many players (Neil Robertson comes to mind first)... So Belloz22, there is nothing odd with playing left handed and cueing more to the right of your face, Neil is the proof of that (and so am I)

            Greetings

The reason i mention it is if i pick a cue up off a table i do it left handed..... So seems odd i would then swap hands to put it in the left. Even more..... Being i do everything right handed, surely that would mean i would have more motor skills etc in my right hand, meaning i should have better control etc??

just thoughts really....... Seems odd tho

Whatever your comfortable with. I'm right handed but can use my left hand with around 50% effectiveness.

I play golf right handed but putt left handed. I pass with my right foot yet hit pens/free kicks left footed. I can play tennis just as well (Or bad tbh) with either hand.

My advice would be to stick with what you've been playing with but dedicate a very small amount of your time with your weaker hand (Whatever you feel this is) as there are big advantages.
Always play snooker with a smile on your face...You never know when you'll pot your last ball.
