  • How best to spend practice time...?

    Hey all!

I've recently started playing snooker again, after a while of not playing at all. I'm now playing an hour (solo) on Mondays and Fridays, a tournament on Wednesdays, and the odd short game against an opponent in between.

My highest break against an opponent is 64, but I'll be playing more now than I was when I made that. I made a 115 clearance in a frame against myself last week...then played on Wednesday and could barely put 3 balls together.

So my question is - how should I spend my solo practice time? Any advice on how to split the time, ideas for practice routines to use and so on would be greatly appreciated!

Loads of routines available for free on PJ Nolan's site. You will find them under the Coaching tab.

Bloody annoying isn't it? Its amazing how inconsistant we can be at snooker for seemingly no reason as you're dong everything the same.

Jmo, but I cannot understand how a player can make a ton clearance then not be able to string 3 balls together..

          Sounds very strange to me..

All the best with your play anyway.

Thanks for the replies so far! I'll check out the routines on that site for some ideas.

To answer throtts - the 115 was a bit of an exception...but I had hoped it was a sign I'd gone up a level! I played a lot of American pool when I stopped playing snooker, and it's brought my cue ball control up a lot. I started playing snooker again a few times a week, and on a good day feel reasonably solid, unlikely to miss anything really easy. Other days it feels completely different, like anything can be missed. The delivery feels wrong, and the angles are harder to see. It's really frustrating - I only slipped slightly out of position once in the 115 break, then had a 46 against an opponent right after (missed a red when I started to think I'd figured out how to play snooker). 3 balls may be pushing it, I can always string an ugly 20 together, but I feel like I can play a lot better than I am sometimes...
