Time to Re-tip.... How to know when?

If you're not happy with the tip to the extent you think it's affecting your play, you should change it unless you can rework it.
I use a blade/sandpaper, superglue, blade/sandpaper and think I have the perfect cue and have done for twenty years - it's all personal preference really.

Problem is, most people think they're using a sharp blade which isn't actually that sharp.
Sometimes even a new Stanley blade isn't as sharp as it should be. If you do a lot of tips, buy a scalpel... knife through butter.
Sandpaper, file, it doesn't matter... But you do need a sharp blade to cut it to size.

Thanks again guys... I just re-tipped two days ago and yes Nrage was right... It wasnt the tip contacting the ferrule making that sound but the tip was actually very hard... Now I have added a medium and will see how that works. For the time being, I like the way it gives me that spungy feeling on contact.
Nrage: I did the experiment you asked me for. Though still not sure but i strongly think that shaping improves performance. I played with the upshaped and then shaped it a little and finally to my liking and when I shaped it to my linking I can say that I can impart more spin on the white with it compared to the unshaped or less shaped one with absolutely same power striking...
