  • Pinging noise when striking cue ball

Hi I've just recently bought a Jing Yian cue and re-tipped it myself straight away with a talisman 9mm medium tip so not sure if it made the noise before but everytime I hit the cue ball with a bit of power I hear a pinging noise the same noise as when u hit a golf ball sweetly is this normal if not what could be causing this noise would appreciate your thoughts and ideas many thanks

Maybe the tip is not stuck onto the end of the cue properly. I think the sound is caused when there is an air pocket between the cue and the tip.

Tip joint ferrule or weight,if it is a new cue I would go with your tip.

Have you used Talisman M tips before? They are quite a hard tip and do make a bit of a pingy noise when compared for example to an Elkmaster.

Does glue make a diff as I used araldite instead of proper snooker glue

If you dont see surplus glue right around the ferrule then you will find that one or more edges have not stuck thoroughly .

HI, the tip not glued properly, also check the wood around the ferrule and the cue joint has no cracks!!

A medium Talisman will make a bit of a pinging sound. Also I have found that if a tip is loose, it will make a high pitched sound, when chalking it. It only makes that sound on the side the tip is loose. If it is not the tip check for a loose ferrule. I have purchased three Asian cues that all needed to have the ferrules re-glued.

99%. Two of my friends repaired loosed ferrule on their Master Cue.

This is correct. i have the same guess too.... i had the same problem with my last tip but that sound came after a few months of using and sanding that tip... It was bugging me so I replaced the tip myself and no sound now .... With something as Talisman the sound should not be there cuz there is more meat to the tip than others... if its still there... as hotput says... take it out and first level the ferrule top and sand the tip from bottom and put it on top of the cue and ENSURE there is no gap/light seen... only then you should put it on... air air gap light space would produce the annoying sound again! best of luck!

Are all talisman tips like that or is it just the medium tips ?

I have found that their Soft tips do not make a pinging sound.

It isn't neccessarily the tip or ferrule that's the problem, it could just as easily be a loose weight in the butt or a loose joint that's causing that sound.
