    ?

This is why we practise, innit?

The only proper way to play a stun shot is to let the cue ball stop dead on impact or, if at an angle, let it travel at 90 degrees away from the object ball.

Now, you hit it too hard, you will obviously travel too far. The only remedy for this is to adjust the pace and therefore the point where you hit the cue ball.

Whether the table, cloth, humidity in the room or whatever are different doesn't matter. The right stun in the right situation can only be achieved this way. And certainly not by always over hitting.

Stun shot is played when you want to stop the cue ball on straight shots whereas deviate its angle to 90 degrees of the contact point. Now the rule in my opinion is as under:

      - the longer the distance the lower you need to strike and the lesser the distance the higher it becomes (in any case just below centre would be the highest spot)

      - If you are taking a long pot and its straight would normal stun give you a stop shot ? no the cue ball will travel a bit after contact so those are played, as Terry puts it, like a screw shot striking much below centre to attain the stop effect.

I normally use the soft screw a lot which behaves like a stun but on angular pots...

Practice with it and you will get the hang of it. however the rule as mentioned above will be the best guide with respect to distance.

iv always played the stun shot like this, if the balls are close enough together the player slightly below centre and push through, the further they are apart then the lower you have to strike. thats the way iv always played
