  • Cue Not Going Through Straight

I videoed myself recently doing just off-straight long blue to the yellow pocket. I was depressed (but not surprised) to see that my cue never once went through straight.

What happened most times is the grip hand seemed to move to the right. It took me ages to work out why this might be and i think (bizarrely) is that i was off the line of aim in feathering (i was aiming wrong, under cutting it) and then at the last moment i was cueing across to correct this.

Kind of bizarre but i suppose at least its information i can work with.

(i used to play like joe swail cue action for a long time, now trying to correct the elbow position).

The video will show every flaw no matter how minor so don't be too down on yourself. The good news is that you must have pretty good timing to be able to compensate on the fly like that so once you straighten yourself up a bit you should be a pretty good player

Thanks for the kind words nrage!

I tried a few things to change this.

1st - imagining the grip hand on the line of aim and keeping it there.

2nd - relaxing my wrist and trying to keep it straight in line with the lower arm. this naturally seemed to align my elbow properly (previously i had a joe swail elbow position)

3rd - trying a short backswing like ding or mark allen. this seemed to allow straighter cueing (according to video playback).

it is an incredibly useful exercise videoing yourself straight on pots and watching to see if cue went thru straight. you don't notice this from the side imho, it can be deceptive. video straight on is only way to see properly.

i videoed myself left-handed and i was much straighter cueing, maybe i should switch hands!
