  • Update to Judder....Judder....Judder

Following on from my earlier thread and the advice/guidance that was offered, I would like to update you on todays game.

Well today I played so much better. First off I really concentrated on keeping still on the shot and, most of the time I stayed down and watched the balls come to rest before standing up. This helped enormously.

The second point that I concentrated on, and this was a bit of an eye opener for me. After walking around the table and deciding on where I needed to make contact with the object ball, and then choosing my line of aim, I then made sure that I was looking positively at the object ball when I struck the cue ball. I realised today that previously, after deciding on the line of aim I was always looking at the cue ball to make sure that I hit it correctly. What a difference this made to my game today.

My best break today was only 24 but, overall my potting was so much better, I missed far less pots but, I just fell short on positional play but hopefully, this will improve along with maintaining the improvement in my potting.

Finally, today was tinged with a bit of pain. When I got to the club and opened my cue case I could not believe my eyes. There was no cue, just the small and large extensions. I really don't know how this could have happened! When I played on Tuesday I must have been chatting to my playing partner quite intently and just closed my cue case and set off for home, not realising that my cue must have been leaning up the wall. Our club is only a two table set-up attached to the village hall and we only have about 40 members each with their own keys to the club but, they are not all known to each other.
I have contacted the caretaker of the club but no one has been in touch with him to say that they have found a cue and so I have been back this afternoon and have placed a notice on the board to explain the situation and have offered a reward for its return. The cue cost me more than one weeks pension so I am hoping that I get it back.

If I don't hear anything over the coming week, it would seem to be a sad fact that we have a thief amongst our members but, I honestly hope that this will not be the case.

Fortunately I always carry a spare cue in my car in case the tip comes off my good cue whilst I am playing and so my improvement in my play today was achieved with my old cue!

      so sad
ditto, hope it is returned safely
members is one thing, "guests" of members is another.
This is why I have never leave any of my cues anywhere other than my home.
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

I can imagine your pain, it'd be like losing my right arm, hopefully it's returned, i know for a fact the two venues i play in it's likely my cue could just get took if i left it, as there's bad eggs in every club so to speak...

It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

Unfortunately not at the moment. I went back to the club yesterday to see if anyone was there or if anyone had taken my cue back, but nothing. There was something very strange though. In the club there is a blackboard upon which they mark when the tables are booked for league or cup matches and very strangely someone had written the following message at the bottom of the board and I replicate it here exactly as it was written - I have a "new" cue at home and I will bring it in. - The word cue had a large cross through it and the word 'radio' was written above it. There was no name mentioned to identify who had written the message. I found that to be very odd.

I actually left my cue on Tuesday of last week and so I will give it until the end of this week before I get a replacement. I think that if it hasn't been returned by that time, it is highly unlikely that I will see it again. Thank you for asking.

Have you put a notice up to say your cue is missing?

Bluenose - what you need to do is ask the owner to assist you in a locker search to see if somebody has put it in their locker.

Very odd indeed, if it was a blackboard they could have just wiped cue out easily, was it an expensive cue or even sentimental to you?

Yes I went back on Saturday afternoon and put a notice on a couple of the doors but no joy yet.

Yes I must admit that it all seems very strange. The blackboard is only ever used for notifying members when the tables are booked for matches. and I agree that the word 'cue' could easily have been wiped from the board. This makes me think that the message is linked in some way to my loss.
I paid £139.00 for the cue. which is just a bit more than one weeks pension for me.

Unfortunately there are no lockers in the club. I have already spoken to the chap who empties the clocks and generally looks after the club and the village hall but no-one has contacted him re my cue.

Great news! I had a phone call at 9.20pm tonight from a chap who had found my cue. I went straight over to the club and picked it up. It is now safely tucked up in its case. I will give him a few pints when i see him on saturday. I won't be making the same mistake again, you can count on it.

Thank you to fellow forum members who have shown an interest, the fact that there was nothing that you could do is irrelevant, you cared.......thank you.

I once made a nice break in a league match and decided to leave my 1 piece John Parris cue under the table in the club and go out around town for a few drinks with the clubs barmaid who was on a night off. When I next went back to the club a few days later the cue had gone - been stolen. Never seen it from this day to the next.

                              I still miss that barmaid.
