  • Rubber Wrap

OK, this has probably been asked before; I tried to search but couldn't find anything:
Do any snooker players use a rubber wrap on their cues? It seems to me that having more friction between the hand and the cue should allow the grip to be lighter, which is a good thing.
I don't think I've seen a video of someone using one. Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. Jim

Are they popular in US pool Jimmy? I know of none that uses anything like that on their cue...

You don't really need grip on the cue.... looks nicer without and you are only moving a small ball which doesn't really weigh very much. Much prettier without if you ask me and it doesn't seem to do the pros any harm

Holt has or had a wrap on his cue of some description, was pictured a while back. Almost looks like the same kind of foam type tape you'd put on Bike handlebars.

I use to play with a lad who used the old 80's tennis racket toweling wrap on his cue I had a few shots with it once while he was in the loo, when we were playing for a fiver and the lights. I can still feel it now, It was like swimming in a pair of socks..
I can't play pool with those wraps ether, like a sneaky Pete me!

If you having grip problems you could try 'Grippo'. Its used by bowlers for extra grip. Extra grip on a cue isnt generally required though, unless you have really dry hands or something...

I've been wondering about something like this, Im 6ft3 and have shuvel hands, a 30mm cue gets lost abit, I tried using a big elastic band on the cue but it wasn't great but I think the idea is good. I always liked a varnished cue feel before I went down the quality cue route and the oil finish wood does feel like its gonna drop out of my hand sometimes.

I don't see them used by pool players much. I understand that a lot of the three cushion players use them. They're using bigger balls and hitting them long distances.

I recommend coaching! It really puts all these problems to bed, then you'll play well in your dreams and more importantly when your awake

I dont think there is any wrapping needed on the cue to grip it better...

In my club I saw two players who have done so and I asked them both and they had different replies i.e. 1 the butt got a little cracked so he had to wrap some rubber tape around it and 2 to slightly increase the weight of the cue from the butt to get more balance for his manner of playing...!

As for the grip the best grip can only be attained through the hand/cue butt feel.... no need for any wrapping really.

Its always nicer in snooker to caress the butt with your own hand nothing compares to that !!!
